Facebook vs. Google+

Social Networks Discussion

Well, you guys know me from various places. First of all, I’m on YouTube, SoundCloud, Twitter, and Google+, just to name a few. But one thing also matters: I am not on Facebook.

I am not even kidding. I am NOT on Facebook, and I am not even mentioned on Facebook except on my mother’s Facebook page (and she actually has a picture of herself and me as the main profile picture, but good luck with that since that picture actually dates from 2010 :P). The thing about it is that she didn’t let me have a Facebook account until a certain unknown requirement which maybe I might never meet. Well, who knows what, the day might come.

This was so not good. At the time (in 2011), my only social network was SoundCloud. I also joined YouTube later that year, but I didn’t upload any videos. All I did was subscribe to channels and favorite stuff, and even start comment fights. 😛

But there was another alternative to Facebook I was completely unaware of, and that was Google+. I actually found out about it after my other channel was killed due to it not being connected to Google+. I started using it only last year for my new YouTube channel, but I had to use my real name for my personal page. How frustrating. (UPDATE: These restrictions have been removed recently.)

After my extensive use of Google+ recently, I have found it so much better than Facebook in some cases. Here are a few benefits about Google+:

  1. Google+ comes from the most popular search engine company in the entire world.
  2. People that are on Google+ discuss serious facts and opinions and share their interests, which I find very convenient. People on Facebook, however, share memes and pointless articles, even comedy stuff. Some people do that most of the time. You know what?! If you want to do that, get 9GAG or Tumblr. I don’t know what else to say.
  3. Google+ is Facebook features + Twitter features + Skype features (Hangouts) + more.
  4. Google+ offers a better interface for businesses like The Verge and Engadget.
  5. If your YouTube channel is connected with Google+, your channel will get verified (see the check mark?) if you reach 1,000+ followers on Google+ and 3,000+ YouTube subscribers (info from Freedom!)

There are many more reasons why Google+ is better than Facebook, but you should find these out yourselves. Until then…

Video Games Discussion

As you may know, I’m not a very good gamer, but I do enjoy video games. So while I save money for my coming soon PlayStation 3 (since I have only a Wii that currently doesn’t work due to the power supply being damaged after a power surge), here are the games I plan to buy!

  • FIFA 14 (2013) [E]
  • Battlefield 4 (2013) [M]
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 (2012) [M]
  • Mass Effect 3 (2012) [M]

This is currently unofficial, but when I have enough money for the games, I will announce what I get.

Internet Explorer…

Software Discussion

It’s true, Internet Explorer, the web browser from Microsoft, has been used by many people around the world. But it has become so popular that so many hackers have developed viruses and other malware designed for it, and that is not a good thing.

But there are still many reasons why not to use Internet Explorer: I will cite 5 of them.

1. It is insecureMicrosoft had advertised Internet Explorer 6 as a much safer browser than Internet Explorer 5.x (also for Mac OS X, Solaris, and HP-UX [which were horrible]); but this was not the case, even for the sooner released Service Pack 1.

2. It is unbelievably slow. The main issue with Internet Explorer, people say, is SPEED. It is so slow that you could actually make yourself a sandwich, check the latest Twitter/Google+/Instagram updates, finish your sandwich… and, wow. STILL LOADING 😦

3. Their bug fix schedule is ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS! Microsoft usually has a schedule to fix IE bugs. But when the day comes to fix it… Wow. Microsoft just REPORTS IT TO ANOTHER DATE, therefore making it slower and buggier. Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, on the other hand, find a bug and fix it immediately. In addition, they reward the people who actually found a bug in the software. Microsoft is the complete opposite.

4. It doesn’t support most add-ons. Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Opera, the top three Web browsers, all have add-on support and an add-on marketplace (or store). Internet Explorer DOESN’T. So that means… no AdBlock Plus support.

5. The Adobe Flash Player implementation is… HORRIBLE. You are forced to install the updates manually, and it’s just annoying. Google Chrome has Flash integrated and updates Flash Player in the background without you noticing. Why, IE? WHY!? Please keep in mind that this is my personal opinion about Internet Explorer.

Hello!

Personal Posts

Hello there, WordPress! My name is DJ Deedahx, and I am someone who talks about everything. When I say everything, I mean everything that is of interest to me. For example, video games, computers, ancient technology, etc.

I was born with the idea of discovering technology. First, there was the desktop computer, which I had first used in 2003. Then there was the laptop, months later. And then many months filled with tech dreams had passed,  and I was just wanting to know more about  what these  devices were.

The year 2008 made me a 7-year-old tech-a-holic. Definitely, this was a fun year, and I was introduced to Windows Vista, which neither I nor my mom were able to operate properly (because we were used to Windows XP, which I had used for most of my childhood life). In January 2009, I was just introduced to Apple Computer Inc. and their Mac OS X operating system. From a newbie’s point of view (as I was still one), I viewed Mac OS X as difficult to use.  Keep in mind that I was only 8 years old when this happened, and I used Windows only, so please don’t criticize me for this.

In 2010, I was then introduced to Windows 7, the triumphant sequel to Windows Vista. I never really used it the first time I was introduced to it, but a few weeks later, I just found out that it was ten times better (no hyperbole intended) than the slow and half-unstable but still tolerable Windows Vista.

I meant it when I said that Windows Vista is slow and half-unstable; because on Christmas 2010, Windows Vista on my Compaq Presario C500 (which my mom and I had owned for almost three years) had gone unstable and died. Luckily, my cousin gave me a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate, so I was able to not only save my computer, but also upgrade it to Windows 7. My computer worked so well, but not for long.

My computer, now 5 years old, was becoming slow; and in 2012, my mom bought a MacBook Pro, and she didn’t give me any access to it, therefore making me stand in the dust while my mom was queen of computing with her Mac… I was jealous, extremely jealous, and this was natural.

I was in this state for many weeks, weeping and gnashing my teeth, until I finally got a new laptop for my birthday/Christmas. It was an ASUS K55N, and it was running Windows 8.0. The only thing I disliked about it was that it had an AMD processor (I don’t really HATE AMD that much) that was not well-made.

But I shouldn’t leave out the fact that in November 2012, I started exploring Windows’ and Macintosh’s history and other operating systems. It was the most interesting thing that had ever happened to me in my life so far. Later, I got my hands on Oracle VM VirtualBox, another virtualization software that I was familiar with. The thing is that I used Virtual PC 2007 earlier, but since Virtual PC was not compatible with Windows 8 for some reason, (until I applied a series of patches) I was forced to use this software.

In 2013, I was even compelled to explore Linux. Over the months, I have gotten Fedora, Kubuntu, Linux Minx, and even some rare distributions. I even started using FreeBSD, the most popular BSD distribution, although it was made for more advanced users.

Later that year, emulated retro gaming (i.e. Nintendo Entertainment System) got the best of me. I started getting games for the NES, SNES, and even PlayStation 1 and the NEC PC Engine (aka TurboGrafx-16).

But going out of a technology spectrum, I started my official YouTube channel in May 2013, by uploading a 400p variant of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer logo. (I myself am a fan of movie/TV logos.) Afterwards, other YouTube users started inspiring me to make more videos, and so I did. Although I am not very popular on YouTube, I do my best to be the MAN OF EVERYTHING.

February 2014 is when I started putting extreme focus on my YouTube channel and social connections. I joined Twitter (which I am most active on), Tumblr (comedy purposes only), Pinterest, Instagram, and many others. That’s when I learned about over-promoting, a vital task to increase popularity.

The concept of over-promoting is posting a certain link to your YouTube channel, for example, and repeatedly doing it every day.  Some people, as I believe, may consider this as “spamming”, but I think it is the best way to increase popularity without using expensive services that sometimes do not really work the way you thought they would (no offence).

So that’s all about me! Thanks for reading this!
